Lettuce

A crispy, bright staple for making salads, putting on sandwiches, on tacos, in gyros, or bo ssam! Stock up on some good salad dressing base ingredients like olive oil, a couple types of vinegar, honey, mustard, soy sauce, lemons, etc. so you’ve always got salad as an easy meal option.

Storage

Store lettuce in a plastic bag, in the refrigerator. Best eaten within a few days but will keep for longer, up to a week. Please note that we typically don’t wash the salad greens we pack for you unless they’re very dirty, because they store better unwashed. If you choose to wash your salad greens, invest in a salad spinner so you can be sure to get them truly dry. 

Our Recipes:

OJ and LJ shallot dressing: combine fresh squeezed orange juice, lemon juice, minced shallot, salt, pepper, white vinegar and olive oil! 

Creamy Herb Dressing (from Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat): Combine a tablespoon of finely diced shallot, 2 tablespoons of vinegar, 1/2 cup creme fraiche, heavy cream, sour cream, or plain yogurt, 3 tablespoons olive oil, 1 garlic clove finely grated, 1 finely chopped scallion (you can use all of the white and the green section!). 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh herbs- parsley, cilantro, garlic chives, dill, basil, sage, etc., 1/2 teaspoon sugar, salt and pepper to taste. Toss with any of your favorite greens! Can refrigerate for a few days in the fridge.

White bean salad with herb dressing: Chop up whatever herbs you have plus garlic and a shallot if you have one lying around. Mix with olive oil and white vinegar. Salt and pepper to taste. Mix in a can of white beans and pour that on top of whatever summer veggies you have!

Miso Mustard Dressing (from Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat): 4 tablespoons white or yellow miso, 2 tablespoons honey, 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard, 4 tablespoons rice wine vinegar, 1 teaspoon finely grated ginger. Whisk or shake in a jar thoroughly, and dress salad to your liking.
